On November 17, 2017 AGC MA’s Director of Safety and Keene Alumni, Chris Ziegler Presented a $100,000 check to Interim President Melinda Treadwell that will help support the efforts of developing a new Construction Safety Sciences program that will produce competent and capable graduates that are able to serve as the “next generation of safety leaders”.

The program, conceived in 2013 by Jim Goss, Sr. Safety Consultant, HCSS; AGC Health and Safety Committee will be built from an existing SOHAS Major. Additional construction safety courses will assure future graduates are competent to address health and safety issues (e.g. silica to fall protection) and will require completion of three academic years and two summers of safety boot camp and an internship.

The program and learning outcomes have been synthesized from KSC College Wide Learning Outcomes, Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Quality Academic Program requirements, BCSP Construction Health and Safety Technologist requirements, American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Curricular Guidelines and ABET Program Criteria.

The Associated General Contractors Education Resource Fund’s (AGC ERF) goal is provide $400,000 in financial support to cover first three academic years covering costs to KSC. Raised to date $286,400 with two $100K donations by Turner Construction and AGC MA and additional donations by AGC RI, Hart Engineering Companies, Gilbane Construction, HCSS, MSA and one private donation.  The AGC MA $100,000 donation was made possible through a collective effort by AGC MA, the Construction Industry Association of Western Mass, the Western Mass Industry Advancement Fund, and the AGC of America Education Foundation.

Once the final goal of the $400,000 budget is reached, classes could potentially begin in the Fall of 2018.
