Build New England Awards Gala

Close to 500 Building owners, architects and constructors were on hand at the Intercontinental Hotel on October 1st to celebrate outstanding project teams who designed and built some remarkably complex facilities.

Marc Truant & Associates receives William D. Smith Memorial Award 
Marc Truant & Associates will receive the coveted William D. Smith Memorial Award for their work on the Park Street Church next month.  The award is given by the Boston Society of Architects and the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board for excellence in the design of buildings or facilities that integrate accessibility with historic preservation.

AGC unveils award winning Industry technology Innovators
It was a great night at Fenway Park when AGC of MA announced the winners of the inaugural AGC Industry Technology Awards.  This juried awards program recognizes firms for the innovative ways they are using technology to increase competitiveness and create a better working environment for employees in the construction community.

The Leadership in Technology Award went to Tocci Building Companies. bobjoejoeTocci was one of the first construction companies in the northeast to fully adopt BIM (Building Information Modeling).  The firm has developed the region’s most savvy BIM experts and has become a leader in extracting the power of BIM to ignite the birth of virtual design and construction (VDC).  Pictured above  – Bob Petrucelli, President & CEO, AGC; Joe Stella, President, P.J. The Innovation in Technology Award went to neilWilliam A. Berry & Son, Inc., who created a mobile access technology system for safety as a way to ensure safe jobsites.  The system records, tracks and analyzes safety data on site, ensuring that inspections are thorough, fast and conducted in a consistent manner by all teams on all jobs. Pictured in center Neil Slyva, William A. AGC congratulates these two major construction firms for their forward-thinking approach to solving issues faced in building the facilities we all use today.

Elaine Construction receives recognition 
Congratulations to Elaine Construction, honored recently by The Northeastern University Center for Family Business with the 2009 Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Award. The award recognizes the Wexler family’s business achievements and leadership success across three generations. Research by the Center reveals that fewer than 12% of family businesses survive to be led by a third generation.  (more) 

BBJ honors fast growing companies
Among the 60 companies recognized for their achievements by BBJ as fast growing private companies are seven AGC members. At the morning event a panel of 2009 Pacesetters executives shared their strategies for successful management and growth of their enterprises.  This year's panel included AGC member Joe Albanese, founder & CEO, Commodore Builders.

Gilbane signs a  Partnering Agreement mphs partneringwith Building Careers Partnership to create a channel for Madison Park High School students interested in the construction profession to further their career goals. 

 

 

Clark Construction and Suffolk Construction are two of 13 firms that have formed the  Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative (CEICI), a non-profit group promoting ethical behavior and full compliance with the law.  The Group will focus on construction companies’ best practices for encouraging ethical behavior and ensuring full compliance. Its goals are to identify and spread those practices throughout the construction industry.  AGC congratulates these firms for their efforts.

William’s Scotsman received six Awards of Distinction in the categories of permanent modular, temporary modular and marketing for projects completed in 2007 from the Modular Building Institute. The awards honor innovation and design excellence within the commercial modular space industry.

Congratulations to John Kuhnle of A. F. Underhill, Inc. who achieved the top score of 92 on the test given at the last AGC OSHA 30-hour program in October.  As a result, John will be receiving the $200 award for his efforts. 

Suffolk Construction has been ranked by Training Magazine as a finalist in the “Training Top 125,” which is considered the most elite ranking among Fortune 500 companies for training and development. Suffolk’s specific rank will be unveiled in February 2008 during a gala sponsored by the national publication.

Feeley & Driscoll was again named “Best of the Best” by Inside Public Accounting.  F&D is the only firm in New England recognized for two consecutive years and featured for six out of the last seven years.  The designation is an elite honor based entirely on fiscal and operational performance," Inside Public Accounting Publisher Michael Platt explained.  

Skanska USA Building Attains CHASE Blue Level Status
We were recently notified by Brenda Gordon, OSHA Region I Area Director that Skanska USA Building Inc. has been accepted at the Blue level in the AGC-OSHA Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) Partnering Program.  

Skanska USA Building now joins A. J. Martini, Commodore Builders, Consigli Construction and Lee Kennedy as firms that have maintained the Blue level of excellence every year since their acceptance by OSHA.
