Charitable work in the Building Construction Industry over the holidays and all through-out the year

As a new member (eight months now!) to the Building Construction Industry in Massachusetts, I am continually impressed that how, for such a large industry, it feels like such a small community. The holidays were no exception with tidings of good cheer, images of employee celebrations and the incredible out pouring of charitable giving. Every day my social media feeds were inundated with the generous actions of AGC MA members and their dedicated staff. The more I thought about it the more I was compelled to look back and make a list, then reach out to a few of our members (not everyone shares) to see what their efforts included. Here is a short list of events that were happening this holiday season-and by the way, many of our members give all year long…

Barr & Barr/Participated in the “Holiday Cheer Program” coordinated by Voices Against Violence, providing holidays gifts to those in need. Employees also contribute clothing, games & toys for children every year.

BOND Brothers/US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program

Campanelli/Donated space for toy drive pick-up and drop-off at their Heritage Landing campus in Quincy, MA to DOVE, and the South Shore YMCA-Germantown

C.E. Floyd Company/Participated in its 13th annual Big Wishes Gift Drive benefitting The Home for Little Wanderers.

Colantonio/The company donates five 18-20 pound turkeys and $500 in supermarket gift cards to the Holliston Pantry Shelf at Thanksgiving, Chairman & CEO Fran Colantonio shops himself for $500 worth of toys to kids in need

Commodore Builders/Rosie's Place meals for over 100 women

Consigli/Employees donated wrapped gifts for the Red Cross for local homeless Veterans, donated canned goods and $350 to the Greater Boston Food bank

Dimeo Construction/ Annual giving tree gifts at Roger Williams Daycare Center

Elaine Construction/Gift items for the 350 + Veterans who reside at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans

Erland Construction/Collected 51 children's holiday gifts for People Helping People

    F.W. Madigan/Employees contributed to local Mass. & R. I. Make a Wish Foundation

Lee Kennedy Co Inc/Fill the Truck with Turkeys Food Drive and Holiday gift drive with the Boys and Girls Club

Mintz Levin/Supports Nationals Youth Baseball Academy & Citizens School

Shawmut/ Donated 200 toys to Horizons for Homeless Children

Our members are extremely busy with projects at this time of year, but they all agree the “return” is worth it. Says Catie Floyd McMenamin of C.E. Floyd, “I look forward to organizing this each year! We're able to select items directly off the kids' wish lists, so we know we're giving them something they want."

And although Fran Colantonio was reluctant to share what he personally does he said he prefers to “…donate to the local pantry because every community has children in need.  And while major nonprofits do incredible work, we'd all be in a better place if more people focused on helping others in their own communities.”

Thank you to everyone who gave back to the community in 2015-it what makes Massachusetts a great place to work/live and AGC MA an Excellent association to be affiliated with!

Building Excellence in the Industry. Building Excellence in Massachusetts.
